Although it may not sound like that Vitamin E describes a family of vitamins active in the entire human organism. These family members, or vitamin E forms, include alpha, beta, gamma, and delta tocotrienol and alpha, beta, gamma, and delta tocopherol.different forms of vitamin E have varying levels of biological activity and so only the alpha tocopherol may satisfy human needs. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and it is fat-soluble.
Apart from being an antioxidant vitamin E serves also certain immune functions. Moreover, vitamin E helps in gene expression and some metabolic processes. Some research also indicates that vitamin E may be useful in preventing prostate cancer. Vitamin E helps maintain a healthy skin and prevent bladder cancer. More generally, it can be said that vitamin E prevents deterioration of all body tissues.
