Vitamin D deficiency prevention:

Communities at risk of vitamin D deficiency should take great care to provide their members with dietary counseling. As vitamin D rarely occurs in foods naturally foods marked as fortified (with vitamin additives) should be consumed in larger amounts. Also, increased exposure to sunlight is advisable.

It is recommended that breast-fed infants are given vitamin D supplements up to 6th month of life. This may be in the form of fortified milk and in older children fortified cereals. For people who cannot consume mils other vitamin supplements should be provided, for example in the form of pills.
