Vitamin D characteristics and function:

Vitamin D is stored in the human body’s fatty tissue and it helps absorb calcium. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin present in few foods, however, as it is produced endogenously when the sun rays strike skin the vitamin D deficiency is very rare. Vitamin D is essential in the human body for promoting calcium absorption, bone growth and the most recent research shows that vitamin D may be also useful for protection from cancer, osteoporosis and hypertension.

Vitamin D may be found in:

  • Eggs

  • Nuts

  • Butter

  • Tuna

  • Cheese

  • Salmon

  • Fortified cereals
